About
The way I see the world… Art is everywhere, from the smallest patch of nature as painted by Albrecht Dürer to the exciting abstract compositions by Gerhard Richter. And, of course everywhere around us in real life. I like to approach my paintings with the idea of creating something beautiful and personal, a unique piece of art. Composition and design is my focus. Colours bring the painting to life. The contrast created by light and shadow, the warm and the cool, the vibrancy and the light is what I am trying to put on paper or canvas. My subjects are nature, still – life, people and abstract compositions. My paintings are based on visual experiences and on imagination, capturing beauty, colourful nuances, interesting detail and innovative design. I paint in various styles, I do not follow a formula. Painting is like an adventure for me. For most of my life I worked in the graphic arts, photography and advertising. After a broad training in lithography and printing processes, I studied art and graphic design at the Freie Kunstschule in Stuttgart, Germany. After that, I worked for a major publisher of magazines and books in Germany. I came to Canada and joined companies like Eaton’s and Hudson’s Bay Company working in creative positions and management. In the 1980’s and 90’s I formed a partnership with Harold Abrams in an advertising, design and photography studio. Later, I worked on my own, primarily in graphic design and photography for advertisers. Since I retired, I paint still and I take my camera everywhere I go, and I explore new methods of expression. It is a never ending wonderful journey…
